En 2019, les fabricants d’instruments de musique français - réunis au sein de la Chambre Syndicale de la Facture Instrumentale (CSFI) - ont décidé d’agir collectivement et de soutenir l’action de l’ONG African Blackwood Conservation Project (ABCP). Implantée en Tanzanie depuis près de 25 ans, cette ONG a développé un savoir-faire unique dans sa pépinière où poussent des plants de Dalbergia melanoxylon, l’essence utilisée pour fabriquer les clarinettes et les hautbois. Ce soutien financier va permettre à ABCP d’accroître le nombre d’arbres replantés et de développer des projets de partage de compétences vers d’autres territoires. Pour en savoir plus, cliquez ici |

In 2019, French musical instruments manufacturers- gathered in the French Musical Instruments Organisation (Chambre Syndicale de la Facture Instrumentale - CSFI) - decided to act collectively and to support the action of the NGO African Blackwood Conservation Project (ABCP) . Established in Tanzania for nearly 25 years, this NGO has developed a unique know-how in its nursery where plants of Dalbergia melanoxylon, the essence used to make clarinets and oboes, grow. This financial support will enable ABCP to increase the number of replanted trees and develop projects to share skills with other territories. For more information click here |

Le Dalbergia melanoxylon – appelé localement Mpingo ou African Blackwood – est un matériau essentiel pour les instruments à vent, plus particulièrement pour la fabrication des clarinettes et des hautbois. Yamaha a donc décidé d’agir en Tanzanie pour cette essence dès 2016. Après une série d’études menées sur place, la société japonaise a décidé en 2018 de s’engager auprès d’ONG locales. Dalbergia melanoxylon - locally called Mpingo or African Blackwood - is an essential material for woodwind instruments, especially for making clarinets and oboes. Yamaha decided to act in Tanzania for this species in 2016. After a series of studies conducted on site, the Japanese company decided to engage with local NGOs in 2018. Yamaha has created partnerships with sawmills and planted 1,500 trees in 2018. For more information click here |

Au début de l’année 2021, l’APLG a sollicité la Charte Forestière de Territoire du Pays Seine-et-Tilles en Bourgogne afin de chercher un approvisionnement local pour leurs adhérents. L’Office National des Forêts, en charge de la gestion de la moitié des forêts du Pays Seine-et-Tilles, est en mesure d’informer les artisans de la disponibilité du bois. At the start of 2021, the APLG requested the Forestry Charter of the Territory of the Pays Seine-et-Tilles in Burgundy in order to seek local supplies for their members. The National Forestry Office, in charge of managing half of the forests in the Seine-et-Tilles region, is able to inform artisans of the availability of wood. Thanks to this direct contact with the forestry technicians, some logs were purchased by a member of the APLG. |

Action des luthiers guitares en partenariat One Tree Planted |

Pour ce premier projet, l’APLG a pour objectif de collecter un minimum de 2 500 € pour planter 2 500 arbres d’une espèce menacée d’acajou africain, le Khaya senegalensis. Cette collecte devrait se terminer en novembre 2022 et il est prévu de l’annoncer lors du festival d’Issoudun. Les dons récoltés seront ensuite envoyés à l’association One Tree Planted. For this first project, the APLG aims to raise a minimum of 2,500 € to plant 2,500 trees of an endangered species of African mahogany, Khaya senegalensis. This collection is expected to end in November 2022 and is scheduled to be announced during the Issoudun festival. The collected donations will then be sent to the One Tree Planted association. |

Le projet Leonardo Guitar Research (LGPR)

Le projet Leonardo Guitar Research (LGRP) étudie les possibilités d’utilisation d’essences de bois durables et non-tropicales dans la fabrication des guitares acoustiques et classiques. Plusieurs études comparatives entre bois locaux et bois tropicaux ont ainsi été réalisées depuis 2014. L’objectif des luthiers guitares est de développer une plateforme de connaissances sur l’utilisation d’essences alternatives de bois non tropicaux dans la fabrication des guitares. Si l’utilisation des bois tropicaux par l’ensemble des luthiers du monde entier est une goutte d’eau dans le commerce international, ils s’investissent néanmoins depuis longtemps pour préserver les bois en danger et pour trouver des alternatives durables qui respectent la biodiversité. The wood resource is essential for musical instruments - especially for guitars whose wood is the raw material - and its decline year after year has a serious impact on instruments making. The guitar luthiers, through the French association APLG, have therefore approached Iris Brémaud, a researcher at the CNRS to be associated with the scientific exploratory project "Rosewoods". The aim of this project is to collect data on the physical properties of rosewood species threatened by overexploitation. This is the first necessary step to enable the joint conservation of biodiversity and socio-cultural heritage. For more information click here |

| L’une des missions de l’association European Guitar Builders (EGB) est d’attirer l’attention sur la problématique des bois tropicaux et de sensibiliser le public au fait que les instruments construits à partir de bois régionaux peuvent être tout aussi performants et tout aussi beaux que ceux fabriqués à partir de bois tropicaux. C'est ainsi qu'est né le Local Wood Challenge (LWC), à l’origine pour le salon de guitare The Holy Grail Guitar Show 2016. L’idée était de permettre aux exposants - s’ils choisissaient de participer - de construire un (ou plusieurs) instrument à exposer au salon, en utilisant des bois cultivés localement dans leur région. One of the missions of The European Guitar Builders association (EGB) is to draw attention to tropical woods issue and to educate the public about the fact that instruments built using local regional woods can be just as great-sounding and good-looking as instruments built with tropical woods. That is the reason why the Local Wood Challenge (LWC) was created, originally for The Holy Grail Guitar Show 2016.
